Professor Alexander Balfour Mullen is a Professor at the Strathclyde Institute of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, and Chief Scientific Officer at Fitabeo Therapeutics in Edinburgh. He holds a First Class BSc (Hons) in Pharmacy and a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Strathclyde.
His academic and research career spans pharmaceutical sciences, drug delivery, formulation science, antimicrobial use, vaccines and translational research. He has held academic positions at the University of Strathclyde since 1999 and has also worked in pharmaceutical formulation and as a community and hospital pharmacist.
Professor Mullen has an extensive international publication record and has contributed to research in lipid-based nanoparticles, drug-delivery systems, antimicrobial stewardship, vaccines and therapeutic formulations. He is also an inventor on multiple patents relating to oral thin films and immediate, delayed, prolonged and pulsatile drug delivery technologies.
